A Landmark in the Heart of Town

The Polk County Courthouse

Standing at 850 Main Street, the Polk County Courthouse has anchored downtown Dallas since 1899. Built after the 1897 fire destroyed the previous courthouse, the Romanesque Revival building is constructed from locally quarried sandstone and topped with a distinctive 95-foot clock tower.

The community rallied to save the aging structure in the late 1960s when it was considered for demolition, and today it is recognized as a historic landmark that still serves as a working civic building. Its stone facade and clock tower make it one of the most photographed buildings in the Willamette Valley.
